CARE AND STORAGE
Where should I keep them?
This species needs lots of space to climb about and be able to molt. The suggested dimensions are 3 times the mantis length for the cage height, and 2-3 times its length for the cage width. Keep them between 70 to 85°F. Humidity is best at 60% which is needed for them to molt properly. Keeping coco coir or wood chip substrate and spraying it several times weekly will maintain humidity.
What should I feed them?
If you are keeping your praying mantis as pets, you will need to give them food as soon as they arrive. Flightless fruit flies, available on our website, are an excellent choice to feed your young mantis. When they grow older, they can eat all sorts of different foods and attack anything 1/3 it's body size or smaller. Anything from worms to crickets, to even flies and Dubia! Also, misting of the interior of their enclosure is needed every 1 to 2 days for adequate hydration. For flies, you can buy our spikes and let them pupate into a bluebottle fly which they love!
For watering, mantises get their water from their prey so no additional watering is needed except from spraying the tank…and occasionally, a mantis will drink off of droplets from a branch or a side of the tank.
